Working overseas
What would it take for you to seriously consider a job abroad? Would it be increased pay, the chance to put international experience on your CV, or just the fact you can widen your job search?
In Are you expat material, a BNET article, Tim Gray lists five things to think about before looking for work abroad. It’s all good advice, but the second in the list – find a niche – is particularly valid. What do you have to offer that local people wouldn’t necessarily be able to do? Do you have specific UK / US knowledge which a company would be interested in?
A final point: not all international experience is going to look good on your CV. It’s less easy to sell the benefits of low-paid or unskilled work picked up while backpacking around Asia, than it is to sell international experience where you developed or learnt new skills. Focus your efforts on finding work which will advance your career or marketability, and you’ll be able to reap the rewards from it in years to come.

This ebook helps you through the whole job search process; with advice on understanding your skills and values, writing a CV / covering letter, networking, preparing for interviews, and salary negotiations.
